1:5 |
5 make a bisechyng on youre
comynyng in the gospel of Crist, fro the firste day til nowe; |
5 because of the fellowship
which ye have in the gospell from the first day unto now, |
5 because of the fellowshyp
which ye have in the gospell from the fyrst daye vnto now: |
5 because of youre fellishippe
which ye haue in the Gospell from the first daye vnto now, |
5 Because of the fellowship
which ye haue in the Gospel, from the first day vnto nowe. |
5
For your felowship in the Gospell, fro the first day vntyll nowe. |
5 For your felowship in the
Gospel from the first day vntill now; |
1:6 |
6 tristenynge this ilke thing,
that he that bigan in you a good werk, schal perfourme it til in to the dai
of Jhesu Crist. |
6 and am surely certified of
this, that he which began a god work in you shall perform it until the day
of Iesus Christ, |
6 and am suerly certified of
this that he which beganne a good worke in you shall go forthe with it vntyll
the daye of Iesus Christ |
6 and am surely certified of
this, yt he which hath begonne that good worke in you, shal go forth with it
vntyll ye daye of Iesus Christ: |
6 And I am persuaded of this
same thing, that he that hath begunne this good worke in you, wil perfourme
it vntill the day of Iesus Christ, |
6
And beyng perswaded of this same thyng, that he which hath begun good worke
in you, wyll perfourme it vntyll the day of Iesus Christe, |
6 Being confident of this very
thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you, will performe it vntil
the day of Iesus Christ: {perform: or, finish} |
1:7 |
7 As it is iust to me to feele
this thing for alle you, for that Y haue you in herte, and in my boondis, and
in defending and confermyng of the gospel, that alle ye be felowis of my
ioye. |
7 as it becometh me so to judge
of you all, because i have you in my heart, and have you also every one
companions of grace with me, even in my bonds as i defend, and stablish the
gospell. |
7 as it becometh me so to iudge
of you all because I have you in my herte and have you also every one
companios of grace with me even in my bondes as I defende and stablysshe the
gospell. |
7 as it becommeth me to iudge of

of grace in my bondes, in defendinge and stablyshinge of the Gospell. |
7 As it becommeth me so to iudge
of you all, because I haue you in remembrance that both in my bands, and in
my defence, and confirmation of the Gospell you all were partakers of my
grace. |
7
As it becommeth me to iudge this of you al, because I haue you in my heart,
and in my bondes, in the defence and confirmation of the Gospell, you all
beyng partakers of my grace. |
7 Euen as it is meete for mee to
thinke this of you all, because I haue you in my heart, in as much as both in

with me of grace} |
1:8 |
8 For God is a witnesse to me,
hou Y coueyte alle you in the bowelis of Jhesu Crist. |
8 ¶ God beareth me record how
greatly i long after you all from the very heart root in Iesus Christ. |
8 For God beareth me recorde how
greatly I longe after you all from the very herte rote in Iesus Christ. |
8 For God is my recorde, how I
loge after you all euen fro the very hert rote in Iesus Christ. |
8 For God is my recorde, howe I
long after you all from the very heart roote in Iesus Christ. |
8
For God is my recorde howe greatly I long after you all, in the bowels of
Iesus Christe. |
8 For God is my record, how
greatly I long after you all, in the bowels of Iesus Christ. |
1:9 |
9 And this thing Y preie, that
youre charite be plenteuouse more and more in kunnyng, and in al wit; |
9 And this i pray, that your
love may increase more and more in knowledge, and in all fealing, |
9 And this I praye yt youre love
maye increace more and more in knowledge and in all fealinge |
9 And for the same I praye, yt
yor loue maye increace more & more in all maner of knowlege and in all
experience, |
9 And this I pray, that your
loue may abound, yet more and more in knowledge, and in all iudgement, |
9
And this I pray, that your loue may abounde yet more and more in knowledge,
and in all vnderstandyng: |
9 And this I pray, that your
loue may abound yet more & more in knowledge, and in all iudgment.
{judgment: or, sense} |
1:10 |
10 that ye preue the betere
thingis, that ye be clene and without offence in the dai of Crist; |
10 that ye might accept things
most excellent, that ye might be pure and such as should hurt no man's
conscience, until the day of Christ, |
10 that ye myght accepte thinges
most excellent that ye myght be pure and soche as shuld hurte no manes
conscience vntyll the daye of Christ |
10 yt ye maye proue what is
best, that ye maye be pure, & soch as hurte no mans conscience, vnto the
daye of Christ: |
10 That ye may alowe those
things which are best, that ye may be pure, and without offence vntill the
day of Christ, |
10
That ye maye discerne thynges that differ, that ye maye be pure, and without
offence, tyll the day of Christe. |
10 That ye may approue things
that are excellent, that ye may be sincere, and without offence till the day
of Christ. {approve: or, try} {are…: or, differ} |
1:11 |
11 fillid with the fruyt of
riytwysnesse bi Jhesu Crist, in to the glory and the heriyng of God. |
11 filled with the fruits of
righteousness, which fruits come by Iesus Christ unto the glory and laud of
God. |
11 filled with the frutes of
rightewesnes which frutes come by Iesus Christ vnto the glory and laude of
God. |
11 fylled with the frutes of
righteousnes, which come by Iesus Christ vnto the glorye and prayse of God. |
11 Filled with the fruites of
righteousnesse, which are by Iesus Christ vnto the glorie and praise of God. |
11
Beyng fylled with the fruites of righteousnesse, which [are] by Iesus Christ,
vnto the glorie and prayse of God. |
11 Being filled with the fruites
of righteousnesse, which are by Iesus Christ vnto the glory and praise of
God. |
1:12 |
12 For, britheren, Y wole that
ye wite, that the thingis that ben aboute me han comun more to the profit of
the gospel, |
12 ¶ i would ye understood
brethren that my business is happened unto the greater furthering of the
gospell. |
12 I wolde ye vnderstode
brethern that my busynes is happened vnto the greater furtherynge of the
gospell. |
12 I wolde ye vnderstode
brethren, that my busynes is happened vnto the greater furtheraunce of the
Gospell, |
12 I would ye vnderstood,
brethren, that the things which haue come vnto me, are turned rather to the
furthering of the Gospell, |
12
But I woulde ye should vnderstande brethren, that the thinges which [came]
vnto me, hath come rather vnto the furtheraunce of the Gospell: |
12 But I would yee should
vnderstand brethren, that the things which happened vnto mee, haue fallen out
rather vnto the furtherance of the Gospel. |
1:13 |
13 so that my boondis weren maad
knowun in Crist, in ech moot halle, and in alle other placis; |
13 So that my bonds in Christ
are manifest thorow out all the judgement hall: and in all other places, |
13 So that my bondes in Christ
are manyfest thorow out all the iudgement hall and in all other places: |
13 so that my bondes in Christ
are manifest thorow out all ye iudgmet hall, and in all other places: |
13 So that my bandes in Christ
are famous throughout all the iudgement hall, and in all other places, |
13
So that my bondes in Christe, are manifest, throughout all the iudgement
hall, and in all other [places.] |
13 So that my bonds in Christ,
are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places. {in Christ: or, for
Christ} {the palace: or, Cæsar's court} {in all other…: or, to all others} |
1:14 |
14 that mo of britheren
tristinge in the Lord more plenteuously for my boondis, dursten without drede
speke the word of God. |
14 In so much that many of the
brethren in the lord are boldened thorow my bonds, and dare more largely
speak the word without fear. |
14 In so moche that many of the
brethre in ye lorde are boldned thorow my bodes and dare more largely speake
the worde with out feare. |
14 In so moch that many brethren
in the LORDE, are boldened thorow my bodes, and darre more largely speake the
worde without feare. |
14 In so much that many of the
brethren in the Lord are boldened through my bandes, and dare more frankely
speake the word. |
14
And many of the brethren of the Lord, beyng incouraged through my bondes,
dare more plentifully speake the word, without feare. |
14 And many of the brethren in
the Lord, waxing confident, by my bonds, are much more bold to speake the
word without feare. |
1:15 |
15 But summe for enuye and
strijf, summe for good wille, prechen Crist; |
15 Some there are which preach
Christ of envy and strife, and some of goodwill. |
15 Some ther are which preache
Christ of envie and stryfe and some of good wyll. |
15 Some (no doute) preach Christ
of enuye and stryfe, but some of good wil. |
15 Some preache. Christ euen
through enuie and strife, and some also of good will. |
15
Some preache Christe of enuie & strife, and some of good wyll. |
15 Some in deed preach Christ,
euen of enuie and strife, and some also of good will. |
1:16 |
16 and summe of charite, witinge
that Y am put in the defense of the gospel. |
16 The one part preacheth Christ
of strife, and not purely, supposing to add more adversity to my bonds. |
16 The one parte preacheth
Christ of stryfe and not purely supposinge to adde more adversitie to my
bondes. |
16 The one parte preacheth
Christ off stryfe and not purely, supposynge to adde more aduersite vnto my
bondes. |
16 The one part preacheth Christ
of contention and not purely, supposing to adde more affliction to my bandes. |
16
The one preache Christe of strife, not sincerely, supposyng to adde more
affliction to my bondes: |
16 The one preach Christ of
contention, not syncerely, supposing to adde affliction to my bonds: |
1:17 |
17 But summe of strijf schewen
Crist not cleneli, gessynge hem to reise tribulacioun to my boondis. |
17 The other part of love,
because they see that i am set to defend to gospell. |
17 The other parte of love
because they se that I am set to defend the gospell. |
17 The other parte of loue, for
they knowe that I lye here for the defence of the Gospell. |
17 But the others of loue,
knowing that I am set for the defence of the Gospell. |
17
But the others of loue, knowing that I am set to the defence of the
Gospell. |
17 But the other of loue,
knowing that I am set for the defence of the Gospel. |
1:18 |
18 But what? the while on al
maner, ethir bi occasioun, ethir bi treuthe, Crist is schewid; and in this
thing Y haue ioye, but also Y schal haue ioye. |
18 ¶ What thing is this?
Notwithsanding by all manner ways, whether it be by occasion or of truth, yet
Christ is preached: and therefore i joy. Yee and will joy. |
18 What then? So that Christ be
preached all maner wayes whether it be by occasion or of true meaninge I
therin ioye: ye and will ioye. |
18 What then? So that Christ be
preached all maner of wayes (whether it be done by occasion or of true
meaninge) I reioyce therin, and wil reioyce. |
18 What then? yet Christ is
preached all maner wayes, whether it be vnder a pretence, or syncerely: and I
therein ioye: yea and will ioye. |
18
What then? So that Christe be preached any maner of way, whether it be by
pretence, or by trueth, I ioy therein, and wyll ioy. |
18 What then? Notwithstanding
euery way, whether in pretence, or in trueth: Christ is preached, and I
therein doe reioyce, yea, and will reioyce. |
1:19 |
19 And Y woot, that this thing
schal come to me in to heelthe bi youre preyer, and the vndurmynystring of
the spirit of `Jhesu Crist, bi myn abidyng and hope. |
19 For i know that this shall be
for my health, thorow your prayer, and ministering of the spirit of Iesu
Christ, |
19 For I knowe that this shall
chaunce to my salvacion thorow youre prayer and ministringe of the sprete of
Iesu Christ |
19 For I knowe that the same
shal chaunce to my saluacion, thorow youre prayer and mynistrynge of the
sprete of Iesu Christ, |
19 For I knowe that this shall
turne to my saluation through your prayer, and by the helpe of the Spirit of
Iesus Christ, |
19
For I knowe that this shall turne to my saluation, through your prayer, and
ministryng of the spirite of Iesus Christe, |
19 For I know that this shall
turne to my saluation through your prayer, and the supplie of the spirit of
Iesus Christ, |
1:20 |
20 For in no thing Y schal be
schamed, but in al trist as euere more and now, Crist schal be magnefied in
my bodi, ether bi lijf, ether bi deth. |
20 as i heartily look for and
hope, that in nothing i shall be ashamed: but that with all confidence, as
always in times past, even so now Christ shall be magnified in my body,
whether it be thorow life, or else death. |
20 as I hertely loke for and
hope that in nothinge I shalbe ashamed: but that with all confidence as all
wayes in tymes past even so now Christ shalbe magnified in my body whether it
be thorowe lyfe or els deeth. |
20 as I loke for and hope, that
in nothinge I shalbe ashamed: but yt with all cofidence (as allwayes in tymes
past, eue so now) Christ shalbe magnified in my body whether it be thorow
life or thorow death. |
20 As I feruently looke for, and
hope, that in nothing I shalbe ashamed, but that with all confidence, as
alwayes, so nowe Christ shalbe magnified in my body, whether it be by life or
by death. |
20
Accordyng to my expectation, and my hope, yt in nothyng I shalbe ashamed: but
yt with all boldnesse, as alwayes, so now also, Christ shalbe magnified in my
body, whether it be by life, or by death. |
20 According to my earnest
expectation, and my hope, that in nothing I shalbe ashamed: but that with all
boldnes, as alwayes, so now also Christ shal be magnified in my body, whether
it be by life or by death. |
1:21 |
21 For me to lyue is Crist, and
to die is wynnyng. |
21 For Christ is to me life, and
death is to me advantage. |
21 For Christ is to me lyfe and
deeth is to me a vauntage. |
21 For Christ is to me life,
& death is to me auautage. |
21 For Christ is to me both in
life, and in death aduantage. |
21
For Christe [is] to me lyfe, and death [is] to me aduantage. |
21 For to me to liue is Christ,
and to die is gaine. |
1:22 |
22 That if to lyue in fleisch,
is fruyt of werk to me, lo! what Y schal chese, Y knowe not. |
22 ¶ If it chance me to live in
the flesh, that is to me fruitful for to work, and what to choose i wot not. |
22 Yf it chaunce me to live in
the flesshe that is to me frutefull forto worke and what to chose I wote not. |
22 But in as moch as to lyue in
ye flesh is frutefull to me for the worke, I wote not what |
22 And whether to liue in the
flesh were profitable for me, and what to chuse I knowe not. |
22
But if I lyue in the fleshe, this (is) the fruite of my labour, and what I
shall chose, I wote not. |
22 But if I liue in the flesh,
this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shal chuse, I wote not. |
1:23 |
23 But Y am constreyned of twei
thingis, Y haue desire to be dissolued, and to be with Crist, it is myche
more betere; but to dwelle in fleisch, |
23 i am constrained of two
things: i desire to be lowsed, and to be with Christ, which thing is best of
all: |
23 I am constrayned of two
thinges: I desyre to be lowsed and to be with Christ which thinge is best of
all. |
23 I shal chose, for both these
thinges lye harde vpon me. I desyre to be lowsed, & to be with Christ,
which thinge were moch better (for me) |
23 For I am distressed betweene
both, desiring to be loosed and to be with Christ, which is best of all. |
23
For I am in a strayte betwixt two, hauyng a desire to be loosed, and to be
with Christ, which is much farre better. |
23 For I am in a strait betwixt
two, hauing a desire to depart, & to bee with Christ, which is farre
better. |
1:24 |
24 is nedeful for you. |
24 Nevertheless to abide in the
flesh is more needful for you. |
24 Neverthelesse to abyde in the
flesshe is moare nedfull for you. |
24 but to abyde in the flesh is
more nedefull for you. |
24 Neuerthelesse, to abide in
the flesh, is more needefull for you. |
24
Neuerthelesse, to abyde in ye fleshe, [is] more needefull for you. |
24 Neuertheles, to abide in the
flesh, is more needfull for you. |
1:25 |
25 And Y tristinge this thing,
woot that Y schal dwelle, and perfitli dwelle to alle you, to youre profit
and ioye of feith, |
25 And this am i sure of, that i
shall abide, and with you all continue, for the furtherance and joy of your
faith, |
25 And this am I sure of that I
shall abyde and with you all continue for the furtheraunce and ioye of youre
fayth |
25 And this am I sure of, that I
shal abyde, and contynue with you all, for the furtheraunce and ioye of youre
faith, |
25 And this am I sure of, that I
shall abide, and with you all continue, for your furtherance and ioy of your
faith, |
25
And this am I sure of, that I shall abyde & continue with you all, for
your furtheraunce and ioy of fayth, |
25 And hauing this confidence, I
know that I shall abide and continue with you all, for your furtherance and
ioy of faith, |
1:26 |
26 that youre thanking abounde
in Crist Jhesu in me, bi my comyng eftsoone to you. |
26 that ye may more abundantly
rejoice in Iesus Christ throwe me, by my coming to you again. |
26 that ye maye moare
aboundantly reioyce in Iesus Christ thorowe me by my comminge to you agayne. |
26 that ye maye abundauntly
reioyse in Christ Iesu thorow me, by my comynge to you agayne. |
26 That ye may more aboundantly
reioyce in IESVS CHRIST for me, by my comming to you againe. |
26
That your reioysyng may be ye more aboundaunt in Iesus Christe for me, by my
commyng to you agayne. |
26 That your reioycing may bee
more abundant in Iesus Christ for me, by my comming to you againe. |
1:27 |
27 Oneli lyue ye worthili to the
gospel of Crist, that whether whanne Y come and se you, ethir absent Y here
of you, that ye stonden in o spirit of o wille, trauelinge togidere to the
feith of the gospel. |
27 ¶ Only let your conversation
be, as it becometh the gospell of Christ: that whether i come and see you, or
else be absent, i may yet hear of you, that ye continue in one spirit, and in
one soul laboring as we do to maintain the faith of the gospell, |
27 Only let yovre conversacion
be as it be cometh the gospell of Christ: that whether I come and se you or
els be absent I maye yet heare of you that ye contynue in one sprete and in
one soule labouringe as we do to mayntayne the fayth of the gospell |
27 Onely let youre conuersacion
be as it becommeth the Gospell of Christ, that whether I come & se you,
or els be absent, I maye yet heare of you that ye cotynue in one sprete and
one soule, labourynge (as we do) to mayntayne the faith of the Gospell, |
27 Onely let your conuersation
be, as it becommeth the Gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or
els be absent, I may heare of your matters that ye continue in one Spirit,
and in one mind, fighting together through the faith of the Gospel. |
27
Only let your conuersation be, as it becommeth the Gospell of Christe: that
whether I come and set you, or els be absent, I may yet heare of your
matters, that ye continue in one spirite, in one soule, fyghtyng together for
ye fayth of the Gospell. |
27 Onely let your conuersation
bee as it becommeth the Gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or
else be absent, I may heare of your affaires, that yee stand fast in one
spirit, with one minde, striuing together for the faith of the Gospel, |
1:28 |
28 And in no thing be ye aferd
of aduersaries, which is to hem cause of perdicioun, |
28 and in nothing fearing your
adversaries: which is to them a token of perdition, and to you a sign of
health, and that of God. |
28 and in nothynge fearinge
youre adversaries: which is to them a token of perdicion and to you of
salvacion and that of God. |
28 and in nothinge fearinge
youre aduersaries, which is to them a token off perdicion, but vnto you of
saluacion, and that of God. |
28 And in nothing feare your
aduersaries, which is to them a token of perdition, and to you of saluation,
and that of God. |
28
And in nothyng fearyng your aduersaries, which is to them a token of
perdition: but to you of saluatio, and that of God. |
28 And in nothing terrified by
your aduersaries, which is to them an euident token of perdition: but to you
of saluation, and that of God. |
1:29 |
29 but to you cause of heelthe.
And this thing is of God. For it is youun to you for Crist, that not oneli ye
bileuen in hym, but also that ye suffren for hym; |
29 For unto you it is given,
that not only ye should believe on Christ: but also suffer for his sake, |
29 For vnto you it is geven that
not only ye shulde beleve on Christ: but also suffre for his sake |
29 For vnto you it is geuen, not
onely that ye shulde beleue on Christ, but also suffre for his sake, |
29 For vnto you it is giuen for
Christ, that not onely ye should beleeue in him, but also suffer for his
sake, |
29
For vnto you it is geuen for Christe, not only this to beleue on hym: but
also this, to suffer for his sake, |
29 For vnto you it is giuen in
the behalfe of Christ, not onely to beleeue on him, but also to suffer for
his sake, |
1:30 |
30 hauynge the same strijf,
which ye saien in me, and now ye han herd of me. |
30 and have even the same fight
which ye saw me have and now hear of me. |
30 and have eve the same fight
which ye sawe me have and now heare of me. |
30 and to haue euen the same
fighte, which ye haue sene in me, and now heare of me. |
30 Hauing the same fight, which
ye sawe in me, and nowe heare to be in me. |
30
Hauing the same fight, which ye sawe in me, and nowe heare in me. |
30 Hauing the same conflict
which ye saw in me, and now heare to be in me. |
2:1 |
1 Therfor if ony coumfort is in
Crist, if ony solace of charite, if ony felouschipe of spirit, if ony

1 ¶ If there be among you any
consolation in Christ, if there be any comfortable love, if there be any
fellowship of the spirit, if there be any compassion of mercy: |
1 If ther be amoge you eny
consolacion in Christ yf ther be eny cofortable love yf there be eny

1 Yf there be amonge you eny

fellishippe off the sprete, yf there be eny compassion and mercy, |
1 If there be therfore any
consolation in Christ, if any comfort of loue, if any fellowship of the
Spirit, if any compassion and mercie, |
1
If [there be] therefore any consolation in Christe, yf any comfort of loue,
if any felowship of ye spirite, yf any compassion and mercie, |
1 If there bee therefore any
consolation in Christ, if any comfort of loue, if any fellowship of the
Spirit, if any bowels, & mercies; |
2:2 |
2 fille ye my ioye, that ye
vndurstonde the same thing, and haue the same charite, of o wille, and feelen
the same thing; |
2 fulfil my joy, that ye draw
one way, having one love, being of one accord, and of one mind, |
2 fulfyll my ioye that ye drawe
one waye havinge one love beynge of one accorde and of one mynde |
2 fulfyll my ioye, that ye drawe
one waye, hauynge one loue, beynge of one accorde, and of one mynde: |
2 Fulfill my ioye, that ye be
like minded, hauing the same loue, being of one accorde, and of one
iudgement, |
2
Fulfyl ye my ioy, that ye be lyke mynded, hauyng the same loue, being of one

2 Fulfill ye my ioy, that yee be
like minded, hauing the same loue, being of one accord, of one minde. |
2:3 |
3 no thing bi strijf, nether by
veyn glorie, but in mekenesse, demynge eche othere to be heiyer than hym

3 that nothing be done thorow
strife or vain glory, but in meekness of mind. Let every person think every
other man better than himself, |
3 that nothinge be done thorow
stryfe or vayne glory but that in mekenes of mynde every man esteme other
better then him selfe |
3 that there be nothinge done
thorow stryfe and vayne glory, but that thorow mekenesse of mynde euery man
esteme another better then himselfe: |
3 That nothing be done through
contention or vaine glory, but that in meekenesse of minde euery man esteeme
other better then himselfe. |
3
Let nothyng [be done] through stryfe or vayne glorie, but in mekenesse of
mynde euery man esteeme one ye other better then hym selfe. |
3 Let nothing bee done through
strife, or vaine glory, but in lowlinesse of minde let each esteeme other
better then themselues. |
2:4 |
4 not biholdinge ech bi hym silf
what thingis ben his owne, but tho thingis that ben of othere men. |
4 so that ye consider every man,
not what is in himself: But what is in wother men. |
4 and that no man consyder his
awne but what is mete for other. |
4 and let euery ma loke not for
his awne profet, but for the profet of other. |
4 Looke not euery man on his
owne things, but euery man also on the things of other men. |
4
Loke not euery man on his owne thynges, but euery man also on the thynges of
others. |
4 Looke not euery man on his
owne things, but euery man also on the things of others. |
2:5 |
5 And fele ye this thing in you,
which also in Crist Jhesu; |
5 ¶ Let the same mind be in you
the which was in Christ Iesu: |
5 Let the same mynde be in you
that was in Christ Iesu: |
5 Let the same mynde be in you,
that was in Christ Iesu: |
5 Let the same minde be in you
that was euen in Christ Iesus, |
5 Let ye
same mynde be in you, which was in Christe Iesus: |
5 Let this minde bee in you,
which was also in Christ Iesus: |
2:6 |
6 that whanne he was in the
forme of God, demyde not raueyn, that hym silf were euene to God; |
6 Which being in the shape of
God, and thought it not robbery to be equal with God. |
6 Which beynge in the shape of

6 which beyinge in the shappe of
God, thought it not robbery to be equall with God, |
6 Who being in ye forme of God,
thought it no robberie to be equall with God: |
6
Who beyng in the fourme of God, thought it not robbery to be equall with
God. |
6 Who being in the forme of God,
thought it not robbery to bee equall with God: |
2:7 |
7 but he lowide hym silf,
takinge the forme of a seruaunt, and was maad in to the licknesse of men, and
in abite was foundun as a man. |
7 Nevertheless he made himself
of no reputation, and took on him the shape of a servant, and became like
unto men, and was found in his apparel as a man. |
7 Neverthelesse he made him
silfe of no reputacion and toke on him the shape of a servaunte and became
lyke vnto men |
7 but made him selfe of no
reputacion, and toke vpon him the shappe of a seruaunt, became like another
man, |
7 But he made himself of no
reputation, and tooke on him ye forme of a seruant, and was made like vnto
men, and was founde in shape as a man. |
7
But made hym selfe of no reputation, takyng on him the fourme of a seruaut,
and made in the lykenesse of men, and founde in figure as a man: |
7 But made himselfe of no
reputation, and tooke vpon him the forme of a seruant, and was made in the
likenesse of men. |
2:8 |
8 He mekide hym silf, and was
maad obedient to the deth, yhe, to the deth of the cross. |
8 He humbled himself and became
obedient unto the death, even the death of the cross. |
8 and was founde in his aparell
as a man. He humbled him silfe and became obediet vnto ye deeth even the
deeth of the crosse. |
8 and was founde in his apparell
as a man: he humbled himselfe, and became obedient vnto the death, euen vnto
the death of the crosse. |
8 He humbled himselfe, and
became obedient vnto the death, euen the death of the Crosse. |
8
He humbled hym selfe, made obedient vnto death, euen the death of the
crosse. |
8 And being found in fashion as
a man, he humbled himselfe, and became obedient vnto death, euen the death of
the Crosse. {fashion: or habit} |
2:9 |
9 For which thing God enhaunside

9 Wherefore God hath exalted
him, and given him a name above all names: |
9 Wherfore god hath exalted him
and geve him a name above all names: |
9 Therfore hath God also exalted
him, and geuen him a name, which is aboue all names, |
9 Wherefore God hath also highly
exalted him, and giuen him a Name aboue euery name, |
9
Wherfore God also hath highly exalted hym, and geuen hym a name which is
aboue euery name. |
9 Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him, and giuen him a Name which is aboue euery name: |
2:10 |
10 that in the name of Jhesu ech

10 that in the name of Iesus
should every knee bow, both of things in heaven, and things in earth and
things under earth, |
10 that in the name of Iesus
shuld every knee bowe bothe of thinges in heve and thinges in erth and
thinges vnder erth |
10 that in the name of Iesus
euery kne shulde bowe, both of thinges in heauen of thinges vpo earth, and of
thinges vnder the earth, |
10 That at the Name of Iesus
shoulde euery knee bowe, both of things in heauen, and things in earth, and
things vnder the earth, |
10
That in the name of Iesus euery knee should bowe, [of thynges] in heauen, and
[thynges] in earth, and [thinges] vnder the earth: |
10 That at the Name of Iesus
euery knee should bow, of things in heauen, and things in earth, and things
vnder the earth: |
2:11 |
11 and ech tunge knouleche, that
the Lord Jhesu Crist is in the glorie of God the fadir. |
11 and that all tongues should
confess that Iesus Christ is the lord unto the praise of God the father. |
11 and that all tonges shuld
confesse that Iesus Christ is the lorde vnto the prayse of God the father. |
11 and that all tunges shulde

11 And that euery tongue shoulde

11
And that euery tongue should confesse that the Lorde, Iesus Christe [is] to

11 And that euery tongue should

2:12 |
12 Therfor, my most dereworthe
britheren, as euere more ye han obeischid, not in my presence onely, but
myche more now in myn absence, worche ye with drede and trembling youre
heelthe. |
12 ¶ Wherefore my dearly
beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not when i was present only, but now much
more in mine absence, even so perform your own health with fear and
trembling. |
12 Wherfore my dearly beloved as
ye have al ways obeyed not when I was present only but now moche more in myne

12 Wherfore my dearly beloued,
as ye haue allwayes obeyed (not onely in my presence, but now also moch more
in my absence) euen so worke out youre awne saluacion with feare and
tremblynge. |
12 Wherefore my beloued, as ye
haue alwayes obeyed me, not as in my presence only, but now much more in mine
absence, so make an end of your owne saluation with feare and trembling. |
12
Wherfore, my dearely beloued, as ye haue alwayes obeyed, not as in my

saluation with feare and tremblyng. |
12 Wherefore, my beloued, as yee

absence; worke out your owne saluation with feare, and trembling. |
2:13 |
13 For it is God that worchith
in you, bothe to wilne, and to performe, for good wille. |
13 For it is God which worketh
in you, both the will and also the deed, even of good will. |
13 For it is god which worketh
in you both ye will and also yt dede eve of good will |
13 For it is God which worketh
in you both the wyll and the deed, euen of his owne good wyll. |
13 For it is God which worketh
in you, both the will and the deede, euen of his good pleasure. |
13
For it is God which worketh in you, both to will and to do of good wyll. |
13 For it is God which worketh
in you, both to will, and to doe, of his good pleasure. |
2:14 |
14 And do ye alle thingis with
out grutchingis and doutyngis; |
14 ¶ Do all thinge without
murmuring and disputing, |
14 Do all thynge with out
murmurynge and disputynge |
14 Do all thinges without
murmurynges and disputinges, |
14 Do all things without
murmuring and reasonings, |
14 Do all thyng
without murmuryng and disputyng: |
14 Doe all things without
murmurings, and disputings: |
2:15 |
15 that ye be with out playnt,
and symple as the sones of God, with out repreef, in the myddil of a schrewid
nacioun and a weiward; among whiche ye schynen as yyueris of liyt in the
world. |
15 that ye may be faultless, and
pure, and the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked, and a
perverse nation, among which see that ye shine as lights in the world, |
15 that ye maye be fautelesse
and pure and the sonnes of God with out rebuke in ye middes of a croked and a
perverse nacion amonge which se that ye shyne as lightes in the worlde |
15 that ye maye be fautles and
pure, and the childre of God without rebuke, in the myddes of ye croked and
peruerse nacion, amonge whom se that ye shyne as lightes in the worlde, |
15 That ye may be blamelesse,
and pure, and the sonnes of God without rebuke in the middes of a naughtie
and crooked nation, among whom yee shine as lights in the world, |
15
That ye may be blamelesse and pure, the sonnes of God, without rebuke in the
myddes of a croked and peruerse nation, among who shyne ye as lightes in the
worlde, |
15 That yee may bee blamelesse
and harmelesse, the sonnes of God, without rebuke, in the middes of a crooked
and peruerse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world: {harmless:
or, sincere} {ye shine: or, shine ye} |
2:16 |
16 And holde ye togidere the
word of lijf to my glorie in the day of Crist; for Y haue not runnen in veyn,
nether Y haue trauelid in veyn. |
16 holding fast the word of
life, unto my rejoicing in the day of Christ, that i have not run in vain,
neither have laboured in vain. |
16 holdinge fast the worde of
lyfe vnto my reioysynge in ye daye of Christ that I have not runne in vayne
nether have labored in vayne. |
16 holdinge fast the worde of
life, vnto my reioysinge in the daye of Christ, that I haue not runne in
vayne, nether laboured in vayne. |
16 Holding forth the worde of
life, that I may reioyce in the day of Christ, that I haue not runne in
vaine, neither haue laboured in vaine. |
16
Holdyng fast the worde of lyfe, to my reioycyng in the day of Christe that I
haue not runne in vayne, neither haue laboured in vayne. |
16 Holding foorth the word of
life, that I may reioyce in the day of Christ, that I haue not runne in
vaine, neither laboured in vaine. |
2:17 |
17 But thouy Y be offrid or
slayn on the sacrifice and seruyce of youre feith, Y haue ioye, and Y thanke
you alle. |
17 Yee and though i be offered
up on your sacrifice and of your serving of God in the faith: i rejoice and
rejoice with you all. |
17 Yee and though I be offered
vp vpon the offerynge and sacrifice of youre fayth: I reioyce and reioyce
with you all. |
17 Yee and though I be offred vp
vpo the offerynge & sacrifice of youre faith, I am glad, and reioyce with
you all: |
17 Yea, and though I bee offered
vp vpon the sacrifice, and seruice of your faith, I am glad, and reioyce with
you all. |
17
Yea, and though I be offered vp vpo the offeryng and seruice of your fayth, I
reioyce, and reioyce with you all. |
17 Yea, and if I bee offered
vpon the sacrifice and seruice of your faith, I ioy, and reioyce with you
all. {offered: Gr. poured forth} |
2:18 |
18 And the same thing haue ye
ioye, and thanke ye me. |
18 For the same cause also,
rejoice ye, and rejoice ye with me. |
18 For the same cause also
reioyce ye and reioyce ye with me. |
18 be ye glad also, and reioyce
ye with me. |
18 For the same cause also be ye
glad, and reioyce with me. |
18
For the same cause also do ye reioyce, and reioyce with me. |
18 For the same cause also doe
ye ioy, and reioyce with me. |
2:19 |
19 And Y hope in the Lord Jhesu,
that Y schal sende Tymothe soone to you, that Y be of good coumfort, whanne
tho thingis ben knowun that ben aboute you. |
19 ¶ i trust in the lord Iesus
for to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that i also may be of good comfort,
when i know what case ye stand in. |
19 I trust in the lorde Iesus
for to sende Timotheus shortly vnto you that I also maye be of good comforte
when I knowe what case ye stonde in. |
19 I trust in the LORDE Iesus,
to sende Timotheus shortly vnto you, that I also maye be of good comforte,
whan I knowe what case ye stonde in. |
19 And I trust in the Lord
Iesus, to sende Timotheus shortly vnto you, that I also may be of good
comfort, when I knowe your state. |
19
But I trust in the Lorde Iesus, to sende Timotheus shortly vnto you, that I
also may be of good comfort, when I knowe your state. |
19 But I trust in the Lord
Iesus, to send Timotheus shortly vnto you, that I also may bee of good
comfort, when I know your state. {But: or, Moreover} |
2:20 |
20 For Y haue no man so of o
wille, that is bisi for you with clene affeccioun. |
20 For i have no man that is so
like minded to me, which with so pure affection careth for your matters. |
20 For I have no ma that is so
lyke mynded to me which with so pure affeccio careth for youre matters. |
20 For I haue no man that is so
like mynded to me, which with so pure affeccio careth for you: |
20 For I haue no man like
minded, who will faithfully care for your matters. |
20
For I haue no man lyke mynded, who wyll naturally care for your state. |
20 For I haue no man like
minded, who will naturally care for your state. {likeminded: or, so dear unto
me} |
2:21 |
21 For alle men seken tho
thingis that ben her owne, not tho that ben of Crist Jhesu. |
21 For all others seek their
own, and not that which is Iesus Christe's. |
21 For all other seke ytir awne
and not that which is Iesus Christes |
21 for all other seke their
awne, not that which is Iesus Christes. |
21 For all seeke their owne, and
not that which is Iesus Christes. |
21
For all seeke their owne, not the thynges which are Iesus Christes. |
21 For all seeke their owne, not
the things which are Iesus Christs. |
2:22 |
22 But knowe ye the asaie of
hym, for as a sone to the fadir he hath seruyd with me in the gospel. |
22 Ye know the proof of him, how
that as a son with the father, so with me bestowed he his labour upon the
gospell. |
22 Ye knowe the proffe of him
howe that as a sone with the father so with me bestowed he his labour apon
the gospell. |
22 But ye knowe the profe of
him: for as a childe vnto the father, so hath he mynistred vnto me in the
Gospell. |
22 But yee knowe the proofe of
him, that as a sonne with the father, hee hath serued with me in the Gospel. |
22
Ye knowe the profe of hym, that as a sonne with the father, he hath serued
with me in the Gospell. |
22 But ye know the proofe of
him, That as a sonne with the father, hee hath serued with me, in the Gospel. |
2:23 |
23 Therfor Y hope that Y schal
sende hym to you, anoon as Y se what thingis ben aboute me. |
23 Him i hope to send as soon as
i know how it will go with me. |
23 Him I hope to sende assone as
I knowe how it will go with me. |
23 Him I hope to sende, as soone
as I knowe how it wyll go with me. |
23 Him therefore I hope to send
assoone as I knowe howe it will goe with me, |
23 Hym
therfore I hope to sende, assoone as I knowe my state. |
23 Him therefore I hope to send
presently, so soone as I shall see how it wil goe with me. |
2:24 |
24 And Y triste in the Lord,
that also my silf schal come to you soone. |
24 i trust in the lord that i
also myself shall come shortly. |
24 I trust in the lorde I also
my silfe shall come shortly. |
24 But I trust in the LORDE,
that I also my selfe shal come shortly. |
24 And trust in the Lord, that I
also my selfe shall come shortly. |
24
But I trust in the Lorde, that I also my selfe shall come shortly. |
24 But I trust in the Lord, that
I also my selfe shall come shortly. |
2:25 |
25 And Y gesside it nedeful to
sende to you Epafrodite, my brother and euene worchere, and myn euene knyyt,
but youre apostle, and the mynystre of my nede. |
25 ¶ i supposed it necessary to
send brother Epaphreditus unto you, my companion in labour and fellowsoldier,
your Apostle, and my minister at my needs. |
25 I supposed it necessary to
sende brother Epaphroditus vnto you my companion in laboure and felowe
soudier youre Apostel and my minister at my nedes. |
25 Neuertheles I thoughte it
necessary to sende vnto you the brother Ephraditus, which is my companyon in
laboure and felowe soudyer, and youre Apostell, and my mynister at my nede, |
25 But I supposed it necessarie
to sende my brother Epaphroditus vnto you, my companion in labour, and
fellowe souldier, euen your messenger, and he that ministred vnto me such
things as I wanted. |
25
But I supposed it necessarie to sende to you Epaphroditus, my brother and
companion in labour, & felowe souldier, but your Apostle, and the
minister of my neede. |
25 Yet I supposed it necessary,
to send to you Epaphroditus my brother and companion in labour, and fellow
souldiour, but your messenger, and hee that ministred to my wants. |
2:26 |
26 For he desiride you alle, and
he was sorewful, therfor that ye herden that he was sijk. |
26 For he longed after you, and
was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard say that he should be sick, |
26 For he longed after you and
was full of hevines because that ye had hearde saye that he shuld be sicke. |
26 for so moch as he longed
after you all, and was full of heuynes, because ye had herde that he was
sicke. |
26 For he longed after all you,
and was full of heauinesse, because yee had heard that hee had beene sicke. |
26
For he longed after you all, and was full of heauinesse, because that ye had
hearde that he had ben sicke. |
26 For hee longed after you all,
and was full of heauinesse, because that yee had heard that he had bene
sicke. |
2:27 |
27 For he was sijk to the deth,
but God hadde merci on him; and not oneli on hym, but also on me, lest Y
hadde heuynesse on heuynesse. |
27 and no doubt he was sick, and
that nigh unto death, but God had mercy on him: not on him only, but on me
also, lest i should have had sorrow upon sorrow. |
27 And no doute he was sicke and
that nye vnto deeth. But god had mercy on him: not on him only but on me also
lest I shuld have had sorowe apon sorowe. |
27 And no doute he was sicke,
and that nye vnto death: but God had mercy on him, and not on him onely, but
on me also, lest I shulde haue had sorowe vpon sorowe. |
27 And no doubt he was sicke,
very neere vnto death: but God had mercie on him, and not on him onely, but
on me also, least I should haue sorowe vpon sorowe. |
27
And no doubt he was sicke nye vnto death, but God had mercie on hym, and not
on hym only, but on me also, lest I shoulde haue sorowe vpon sorowe. |
27 For indeed he was sicke nigh
vnto death, but God had mercy on him: and not on him onely, but on mee also,
lest I should haue sorow vpon sorow. |
2:28 |
28 Therfor more hastili Y sente
hym, that whanne ye han seyn hym, ye haue ioye eft, and Y be withouten
heuynesse. |
28 ¶ i sent him therefore the
diligentlier, that when ye should see him, ye might rejoice again, and i
might be the less sorrowful. |
28 I sent him therfore the
diligentliar that when ye shuld se him ye myght reioyce agayne and I myght be
the lesse sorowfull. |
28 I haue sent him therfore the
more haistely, that ye mighte se him, and reioyce agayne, and that I also
mighte haue the lesse sorowe. |
28 I sent him therefore the more
diligently, that when yee shoulde see him againe, yee might reioyce, and I
might be the lesse sorowfull. |
28
I sent him therfore the more diligentlie, that when ye see him againe, ye may
reioyce, and that I may be the lesse sorowfull. |
28 I sent him therefore the more
carefully, that when ye see him againe, ye may reioyce, and that I may bee
the lesse sorrowfull. |
2:29 |
29 Therfor resseyue ye hym with
al ioye in the Lord, and haue ye suche with al onour. |
29 Receive him therefore in the
lord with all gladness, and make much of such: |
29 Receave him therfore in the
lorde with all gladnes and make moche of soche: |
29 Receaue him therfore in the
LORDE with all gladnes, and make moch of soche: |
29 Receiue him therefore in the
Lord with all gladnesse, and make much of such: |
29
Receaue hym therfore in the Lorde with all gladnes, & make much of
such: |
29 Receiue him therfore in the
Lord with all gladnesse, and hold such in reputation: {hold…: or, honor such} |
2:30 |
30 For the werk of Crist he
wente to deth, yyuynge his lijf, that he schulde fulfille that that failide
of you anentis my seruyce. |
30 because that for the work of
Christ he went so far, that he was nigh unto death, and regarded not his
life, to fulfil that service which was lacking on your part toward me. |
30 because that for ye worke of
Christ he went so farre that he was nye vnto deeth and regarded not his lyfe
to fulfill that service which was lackynge on youre parte towarde me. |
30 for because of the worke of
Christ, he wente so farre, that he came nye vnto death, and regarded not his
life, to fulfyll that seruyce which was lackynge on youre parte towarde me. |
30 Because that for the woorke

30
Because, for the worke of Christe, he was nye vnto death, not regardyng his
